All Carers have training in using Cognitive Behavioural Approaches which are designed to assist young people in accepting rather than avoiding responsibility for their own behaviour.
Cognitive Therapy is a scientifically proven method of treatment that works for children as effectively as it does for adults in the treatment of the anxiety disorders as well as such disorders as conduct disorder, depression, and physical complaints that are not caused by an actual physical condition. Cognitive Therapy is actually most often used in conjunction with behavioural therapy when used with children and most often is aimed at trying to break the circle of emotion – thought – behaviour that is thought to cause most of the symptomology that the therapy is intended to improve. The Sanctuary Model, Dyadic developmental psychotherapy (DDP), PACE and Theraplay informed practice also play a role. Dyadic Developmental Practice has been developed by Dan Hughes over the past twenty years. It is based on a theoretical understanding of attachment and intersubjective relationships; and the impact of developmental trauma. For successful intervention, the model suggests a strong focus on parenting principles, that facilitate security of attachments and which incorporate an attitude based on: (PACE) playfulness, acceptance, curiosity, and empathy. |
